THE LEGEND OF PASCO PAUL - SHORT BIO

Pasco Paul serves up sweet soul-satisfying slide guitar, whether on his acoustic Dobro or his own custom electric “E-bro”. His searing leads, intricate rhythms and harmonies add a rich texture and complexity to the band. Pasco Paul is an acoustic/electric multi-instrumentalist who also plays 6, 7 and 12-string guitar, mandolin, lapsteel, and the keys, complete with lead and harmony vocals. His background spans from starting as a horn player to being in a rock band that opened for Aerosmith, to rockabilly to studying bluegrass dobro with Jerry Douglas. Lately, he’s been involved in jazz fusion projects as well as the folk scene. Stylistically, he’ll take you on a sonic journey that’s well worth the ride.

THE LEGEND OF PASCO PAUL - LONG VERSION

"Pasco Paul" fell into music as a young boy inspired by his grandpa after tripping over his accordion and landing on the keys.

He felt compelled to follow his musical roots and took up Accordion(naturally) and Trumpet. Once he hit his teenage years, our young stud adopted Keyboard and Electric Guitar, hoping to get bonked often.

Finding out quickly that being in a rock'n'roll band meant lots of chics, Pasco Paul joined the heavy metal revolution and played all across New England in creatively named bands such as Chicweed.

Inspirations at that time included The James Gang, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, etc. In the mid-seventies, Paul began to carve his niche in the Rockabilly scene when he took up Acoustic Guitar and Folk Singing.

Eventually, his travels led him to his first Bluegrass festival where his life's revelation came to him after being woken up by a banjo at dawn. Legend has it that he resisted the urge to shoot him, namely because he was out of bullets. Pasco Paul quickly surveyed the musical landscape. There were countless guitar players present, all better than him. There was only 3 dobro players, and he was 2nd best. With a little work, he could have it made! And that my friends is how the "Slide and More" part got started. Paul was fortunate enough to have studied with the unbelievable dobroist Jerry Douglas, and was also inspired by the techniques of Mike Auldridge.

After moving to Atlanta in the mid-eighties, Pasco Paul became heavily involved in the Atlanta Bluegrass circuit, as was his friend Jeff Mosier (now with Blueground Undergass).

Paul was the dobro player for the legendary Curtis Jones, was a member of various bands doing dobro and vocals, and spent a bunch of time jamming down at the now defunct Freight Room. He was even hired into a band to play the Mandolin (an instrument he had to learn quickly!) He would have no idea that 10 years later, the Mightly Mandolin would become his secret little addiction.

After one ice storm too many, Paul moved to Central Florida where he metamorphasized into the entity known as PASCO PAUL. Living in Pasco County might have something to do with that, but his cat's not telling. Feline mind control is also responsible for his conversion of an electric guitar into an electric dobro, affectionately called the E-BRO. Me-ow! That kitty roars.

What's good with six is even better than seven! Legend has it that Pasco Paul has even converted his son's 7-string electric into the 7-Bro--complete with piezo.

Nothing is sacred. Moving forward with the dobronification process, he applied his Dobro-esque to his antique lap steel.

OOOO Yeah--it's ALL GOOD!
That's not to say that his G.A.S. has subsided. He succumbed to purchasing a mandocaster, is forever drooling over a 12-string guitar (he needs another guitar like a_______ you fill in the blank.

Pasco Paul can't rest at night unless his hands have been on an electric guitar or an acoustic 6-string--whichever is easiest to grab.... Folks, he basically just can't be stopped. He has too much GUITAResterone and is always in the pursuit of pure sonic satisfaction.

Currently, Pasco Paul can be heard playing dobro and singing with the James Hawkins and Cold Harbor Band, an acoustic folk band performing all original material.
You will also find him playing ebro with The Dapper Dan Band specializing in feel-good favorites. Never too busy for new projects, the legend continues with Pasco Paul crossing over into Jazz Fusion and back over into Bluegrass. When Pasco Paul is not playing music, he plays with his special snake. Actually, that's snake-s, for Paul has a reptile business called Pasco Paul's Colubrids. He raises non-venomous species of corn, milk, king, and asian rat snakes, as well as tortoises, ducks, fennec fox, doberman, and one very big Ragdoll kitty. If you'd like to spice up your project with some SLIDE, let Paul know.
